About the local hosting organizationThis project is actively working for SDG13 (Climate Action) and SDGs 15 (Life on Land), organized together with Shirakami Mountains Preservation Society (SMPS) since 2006. The Shirakami Mountains is one of Japanese valuable preserved natural forests consisting primarily of beech trees, registered as a World Natural Heritage in 1993. SMPS aims to preserve the natural beauty of the Shirakami Mountains by nurturing seedlings of beech trees, planting them, training mountain guide, etc. SMPS hosts tree-planting ceremony every June for preserving and promoting the value of it. They also preserve the forests near the Mutsu-bay, famous as production of scallops. Due to climate change, the sea water temperature increased abnormally and the most of scallops were dead. So SMPS started to preserve the forest there to let nutrient water flow to the ocean.

About the project location

Cambodia, located in Southeast Asia, boasts a rich and intricate history dating back thousands of years. Once the center of the Khmer Empire, the country was renowned for its grand architecture, including the temples of Angkor. Throughout its history, Cambodia has experienced periods of prosperity and conflict, including the dark era of the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s. Geographically, the country is characterized by vast plains, mountains in the north, and picturesque coastlines in the south.

The nonprofit sector in Cambodia plays a crucial role in the country's social and economic development. Numerous non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and associations work in areas such as education, healthcare, human rights, environment, and community development. These organizations aim to improve the living conditions of vulnerable populations and promote social justice. Despite persistent challenges, the nonprofit sector continues to grow and make significant contributions to the progress and well-being of Cambodian communities.

About the local hosting organization"Vir'Volt" stands for Village InteRnational de VolonTaires (international village for volunteers). For the past four years, the association has been based in the middle of a natural regional park near Paris. Welcoming young people from all over the world, getting to know each other and learning from our differences, reflecting, and acting together to protect the environment, having a positive impact on the places and people living around the site or simply passing through... This is the project of this future village, which is built every year thanks to the young people who come to contribute, putting solidarity at the heart of their actions. With accommodation in yurts, teepees and caravans, a permaculture garden, water-saving methods, waste limitation and recovery, this small village that will grow into a large one respects its natural surroundings and is experimenting eco-responsible practices. Taking part in this project means immersing yourself in a natural and ecological living environment, contributing to the development of a unique and original place, playing an active part in the construction of new places of solidarity and ecological initiatives, and making a commitment to a society that is more respectful of people and nature.

Presentation of the programmeDuring this workcamp, you'll be helping to renovate the wall of the cemetery in Boissy le Cutté, a small town 10 minutes from the association's premises. In small villages, the cemetery is an important place for people, a place of memory, a witness to the passing of time and the generations that have populated the surrounding villages. The perimeter wall of the Boissy le Cutté cemetery, which is several centuries old, is beginning to crumble. To help preserve France's heritage, the history of its people and its collective memory, you will be working with us to renovate part of the cemetery's perimeter wall (cleaning and removing joints and damaged areas, rebuilding and applying mortar). Each morning, you will be taken by vehicle to the town of Boissy le Cutté. The group will be divided into two rotating teams for the kitchen and the workcamp. Meals will be prepared on site in a kitchen provided by the town and will be eaten there. Around 4pm, the group will be back at the association's site, our ecological and solidarity village. At the end of each afternoon and in the evening, activities will be organised around the discovery of nature, cooperation and interculturality. You will also have the opportunity to propose your own activities to the rest of the group. The projects offered by Vir'Volt are open to all, and our venue is a safe place for all sexual, cultural and religious identities and orientations. Time will be set aside for discussion and reflection on the fight against discrimination and the mechanics of cooperation between individuals.

Local accommodationAccommodation in non-mixed collective yurts in the village. The yurts are light, insulated and heated ecological dwellings. Please bring a sleeping bag. The accommodation has non-mixed toilets and showers, as well as a kitchen area. Food is provided and meals are prepared by the participants in turn. Please note Vir'Volt is a collective construction project that is only in its fourth year of development. The sanitary block with showers and toilets offers basic facilities.

About the project locationLa Ferté Alais is 50km south of Paris in the Essonne region. Leisure activities: You can enjoy activities on the association's site, as well as discovering the cultural and natural heritage of the Parc du Gatinais. You will help to organise activities with young people from the town. Leisure activities will be organised collectively according to the possibilities and budget available. A day of cultural discovery in Paris is planned.

Extra info about the projectThis project is not a tourist trip to Paris! If you wish to visit the capital, please allow 2 days before or after the project dates. This workcamp is funded by the European Solidarity Corps as part of the HEAL project (Promoting HEALthy lifestyles to improve mental health and well-being), which aims to promote and experiment community living and healthy lifestyles in a post-Covid context. There is no registration fee. Transport costs will be reimbursed up to a lumpsum fixed according to the travelled distance. Pocket money of €6 per day will be distributed.

About the local hosting organizationWorldwide Friends (WF), was founded in 2001 as a non-profit organization promoting nature and peace-oriented activities for volunteers wanting to spend some time in Iceland. Our main theme for this year is to give education about the 17 Sustainable Goals of the United Nations and to clean the whole coastline of Iceland. The main activities that we offer are workcamps, seminars, local events, and exchange programs suitable both for young people and adults.

Presentation of the programmeThe heart of the Sólheimar ideology is to give all individuals a fair chance and to maximize their potential. By focusing on individuals' possibility instead of their limitations, Sólheimar aims to create the space for each resident to take every opportunity that arises for each person to grow and develop. Versatility is the strength of Sólheimar so people with special needs that reside here will always be the center of the community. This works through the idea of reverse integration: those without special needs adapt to the abilities of those who do, they can work together to make their community of an equal and sustainable one. The foundation of the ideology of Sólheimar derives from the visions and lifework of Sesselja herself. The main work in this camp will be in forestry called í–lur and also in the greenhouses which are called Sunna. Volunteers will be working in the greenhouses planting and harvesting vegetables, doing weed control and sometimes you will also be gardening. The work might involve work around the property painting or fixing things. During the winter volunteers will also have to help remove snow and keep the walk paths clear for the residents. Working hours are 09.00 to 16.00 with one hour break for lunch and there are some coffee breaks as well. Our work will depend on weather conditions, which is why we must be flexible. You should be prepared for unfriendly weather, as they say: if you don\'t like the Icelandic weather, just wait 5 minutes it might change. It is a community where people with or without special needs live and work together. Sólheimar is a pioneer of practicing organic farming. In Sólheimar there is an organically certified greenhouse, forestry, and arboretum. Other environmental-friendly projects in Sólheimar include geothermal energy and recycling.

Local accommodationVolunteers will be staying in the house of Worldwide Friends in Sólheimar. The house is across the village and has 4 double rooms with a private bathroom each, a fully equipped kitchen, and common areas. The common areas are shared with some of the local workers. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags, but beds and sheets are provided. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge. Food is included for the duration of the work camp; however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. We provide a well-balanced and healthy variety of food products that includes a wide variety of whole grains, seasonal fruits & vegetables, pantry staples, and dairy products. We try to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet by cutting down our meat intake and we usually encourage volunteers to try more sustainable foods.

About the project locationSólheimar, Iceland‘s first and only eco-village, is located in southwest Iceland, 80 kilometres long (50 miles) east of Reykjavík. The area around the house is great for hiking. We will also concentrate on intercultural learning and exchange. Every evening, volunteers from different countries will be in charge of presenting their country of origin and culture in an informal way. It can be a presentation, a game, theatre – the form of introduction is up to you! Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, photos, or anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other volunteers. WF Iceland will organize reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland has to offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such as waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, lava forests, hot springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam vents, or even icebergs. Golden Circle is Included in the camp fee! This workcamp gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues, and intercultural learning. The area around the house is also great for hiking. Plan ahead, share your travel plans, stay on the trail, properly dispose of waste, leave areas as you found them, and do not approach or feed wildlife. Don't go for high and steep mountains without a professional guide.

RequirementsVolunteers should bring appropriate clothes for outdoor work (waterproof), but also clothes for working inside the warm greenhouses.

About the local hosting organizationALA Associazione Liberi Artigiani – organization active since 2009, work to develop educational framework and workshops specializing in activities for youth and adults in the rural areas. The focus of its work is in Sabina, an agricultural area north of Rome ( 40km) where it has made local development and youth policies its main vocation. The methodology and the educational approach mixes non formal methods, art, creativity, and outdoor practices. PROJECT: The association works to build an idea of an inclusive educational community where everyone has the opportunity to find the space to express himself, outside of any judgment, social or political. On a daily basis it deals with youth aggregation, active citizenship, reception and receptivity, and local development for the purpose of sustainable tourism. This project takes place at Rifugio il Trio, a new space that the association is aiming to redevelop starting from the renovation of the spaces. This camp will be one of the first held in this facility and the restoration work will focus on restoring the dormitory areas. The management of a refuge is an act of care for this rural area, offering an active presence in the mountain area and facilitating access to the hinterland for everyone. The ordinary management of the refuge requires constant maintenance and renovation, which is why the camp focuses on this space, on the one hand offering volunteers the experience of living in a mountain refuge in its wildness and using this space as a place of experimentation were expressing one's creativity and rediscovering the value of manual skills and traditional knowledge.

Group life, shared management of cooking, cleaning and convivial moments including games, excursions and other experiences. This field requires a high sense of adaptation, the ability to disconnect from digital devices and the internet connection, the desire to disconnect from everyday life to connect with a life more in relationship with the people around you and nature. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: Reduce inequality -SDG10 and SustainableCommunities-SDG11

Local accommodationThe group is accommodated in a tent, in the camping area around the refuge. The shelter and the spaces inside are used by the staff for cooking and rain emergencies.Scarcity of resources, spartan accommodation, with shared bathrooms and outdoor showers. Cleaning and cooking will be managed by the volunteers themselves through cleaning/cooking shifts. The group will have access to a pantry based on which to build a weekly menu respecting allergies/intolerances and particular diets.

About the project locationRifugio il Trio is located near Poggio Catino, a small village in the Province of Rieti in the Italian region Latium. It is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Rome and about 20 kilometers southwest of Rieti. During their free time, volunteers could make some excursions, workshops and sports. TERMINAL: Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO) and then direct train to Poggio Mirteto or Rome Ciampino airport (CIA) and then bus connection to Rome Tuscolana and then train to Poggio Mirteto.
